New Housing Plan On Road To Approval; Calls For Increased Density along Corridors

The Austin Strategic Housing Plan is scheduled to go to the Planning Committee for a public hearing and vote on Tuesday, March 28 at 6:00 PM at City Hall. It’s scheduled to go to the Austin City Council for a public hearing and vote on Thursday, April 6.

If approved, the plan will be considered an amendment to the Imagine Austin Comprehensive Plan. It will become a standard against which City staff, commissions, and the City Council will measure the suitability of new developments.

Why should you care? Primarily because one of the plan’s goals is to have at least 75% of new housing constructed within 1/2 mile of Imagine Austin Centers and Corridors. Burnet Road is one of those corridors. So, residents up and down Burnet who live within 1/2 mile of Burnet Road can expect to see their neighborhoods targeted for greater density.
