February Library Update

From John Gillum:

North Village Branch Library Replacement Project: The unique look of the developing new North Village Branch Library structure continues to generate great excitement and favorable comments from future customers in the North Central region of our city. At the present, all of the site’s sidewalks and driveway approaches have been successfully placed, enabling the contractor to remove the previously needed traffic barricades from busy Steck Avenue, opening up all lanes much to the relief of commuters and nearby residents alike. The next major construction activities anticipated are the roofing of the building – both standing seam metal and modified bitumin – and the installation/piping of the rain tank for landscaping irrigation purposes. Difficulties have been encountered in the pouring of the building’s architectural concrete columns, but the services of a new subcontractor specializing in that sort of detail work is presently being sought. Regrettably, the job superintendent who has been on this project since groundbreaking has recently taken a position with another building firm, but a qualified, replacement job superintendent has been successfully recruited by the general contractor. The Library Department remains confident that the new North Village Branch Library will be completed in time for the scheduled opening of the facility by the end of January, 2009.
