National Night Out, October 5

National Night Out 2010 LogoDate: Tuesday, October 5, 2010
Time: 6 – 8 pm
Location: Around the neighborhood

National Night Out in Austin takes place on Tuesday night, October 5. The event is meant to encourage people to find ways to send the message that we are all working together to prevent crime and keep our neighborhood safe. One way to do that is to turn on your porch lights, lock your doors and spend the evening outdoors with neighbors at block parties or informal gatherings.

NSCNA has been encouraging neighbors to hold block parties on Tuesday. So far, we have had confirmation that neighbors are holding parties for residents on the blocks specified below:

Melshire, Benbrook, Donna Gail
Helene Maham, Sherran Williams, Lois McEvoy

Pinedale Cove
Elizabeth Ray, Ed Seymour

Little Laura
Chris Copeland

Franwood, Charlwood
Chip Rosenthal, Juliette Kernion

Millway
Jim and Denise

Stanwood, Daleview
Mickie Bellah, Susan Boyett

If you wish to attend one of the events listed above, you should be able to find the outdoor block parties easily on Tuesday night.

If you are holding a block party and are not on this list, or if the above info is incorrect, please email us at nightout@nscna.org. We will post any corrections and additions.

Please check back Monday and Tuesday for any late updates.

National Night Out is an event involving thousands of communities around the country, which has the goals of showing that participating neighborhoods are safe places to live, strengthening neighborhood spirit and community relations with police, generating support and participation in crime efforts, and heightening crime and drug prevention awareness. National Night Out occurs in August in many northern states, but in October here in Texas when it’s a bit cooler. For more information, visit the City of Austin’s National Night Out web page.
