We are sad that Meredith Highstreet (one of our Board members) requested to resign from her At-Large Board Member position. To ensure we maintain a full roster of eleven Board Members, we have added Chris Jones. During last night’s Board meeting, a unanimous vote from the nine attending Board Members, elected Chris to fill the open At-Large Board Member position. His tenure begins immediately.
Chris will Co-Chair the Media Committee with Sandy Perkins. He continues to lead the development and use of the internet as an important means of communication with our neighbors. Thank you Chris for volunteering.

North central Austin is heating up! Did you know that Phase II of The Domain will bring in an estimated 80,000 new residents and 40,000 new employees just north of us? Or that the groundbreaking for construction of the new North Village Branch Library is scheduled for April? Or that the Austin-San Antonio Intermunicipal Commuter Rail District is planning regional commuter rail service along MoPac on the railroad tracks adjacent to our neighborhood?
Do you want to help enable NSCNA to take advantage of opportunities to influence and participate in the development projects that will shape the future of our neighborhood for the next generation and beyond?
The NSCNA Board of Directors has just authorized a new committee that will focus on gathering information on proposed and pending new development around or near our neighborhood that will potentially impact the quality of life of the North Shoal Creek neighborhood. The new “Development Committee” will be under the interim leadership of Liz Haltom, a member of the Board of Directors and the committee founder, until longer-term leadership can be identified (hopefully before her September due date!).
Do you know anything about the City of Austin zoning rules? Do you have a background in commercial real estate? Have you ever applied for a building permit? If you have even a smidge of experience or knowledge related to commercial development or the City of Austin rules and procedures that apply, then your neighborhood needs you! We’ve been asked to notify the neighbors that our County Commissioner (Sarah Eckhardt) will be available to listen to concerns tomorrow at a coffee shop nearby. We have been asked to, “Come share ideas focusing on local policy and politics.”

During Malcolm’s presentation Tuesday night, he mentioned three documents that concern the Northcross Mall redevelopment.
The first document was a compiled list of concerns put together by the NSCNA. The data in this document was taken from the votes tallied from the December 19th special meeting at Covenant Presbyterian Church.

The second document is from the City of Austin. They requested that the neighborhood associations send them their lists of concerns. The city analyzed the received concerns and compiled a proposed term sheet.

The third document is a 2005 Traffic report that studied the traffic patterns around the Northcross Mall area. It is a huge document and unfortunately, Malcolm was only given a hard copy. He is working to obtain a digital copy for us to put online for those interested in reading.
