  • Pillow Elementary will hold a used book sale in mid October and is accepting book donations for the sale. Any book of interest to any age and in good condition can be donated to this library fundraiser. Donations can be dropped off at the Pillow Elementary Library during school hours.

  • Meredith dropped off Fourth of July Parade photos yesterday. I have put them in a gallery and they are now ready for your viewing pleasure.


  • Capital Metro will hold an open house beginning Tuesday, July 25, to give the community an update on the All Systems Go Long-Term Transit Plan. The events will feature previews of new transit services coming to central Texas, including Capital MetroRail and Capital MetroRapid. Citizens also will have the opportunity to provide feedback on train station design concepts in their neighborhoods.

  • NSCNA members in attendance at the Commanders Forum held on July 11th were Mary Arnett and Rhonda Martinez. Highlights of the meeting included presentations about recent APD efforts in the following areas:

    • North Austin Council of Neighborhoods is working with APD and Code Enforcement officials on improving blighted homes and apartments. Slides of before and after pictures were shown for several properties. This is an ongoing project spearheaded by the neighborhoods of this Council. Officials from Code Enforcement were present at the meeting for questions.

  • On Tuesday, August 1, 2006 neighborhoods across Austin will turn on porch lights for National Night Out, an annual, nationwide event designed to promote neighborhood safety. National Night Out is designed to:

    • Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness
    • Generate support for crime prevention
    • Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police community relations
    • Send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back!
