  • From the City of Austin’s Transportation and Public Works Department, June 2, 2023
Steck Avenue provides important connectivity and neighborhood access for people driving, walking, bicycling and accessing bus service to, from, within and through the North Shoal Creek Neighborhood. The City of Austin will resurface Steck Avenue from MoPac to Burnet Road, providing an opportunity to implement planned safety and mobility changes.
    PLANNED IMPROVEMENTS INCLUDE:
    1) Upgrading existing painted bike lanes to protected bike lanes between MoPac and Burnet Road where space allows
    2) Maintain turn lanes at MoPac, Shoal Creek Boulevard, Rockwood Lane, Briarwood Lane, the easternmost entrance to North Village Branch Library and Burnet Road
    3) Install new pedestrian crossing islands at Stillwood Lane, Parkdale Drive and the easternmost driveway for the North Village Branch Library
Steck Avenue (MoPac-Burnet Road) Scope Map
    INSTALLATION
Resurfacing of the roadway is scheduled to occur this summer. New markings and signs will follow resurfacing after the new pavement has cured and paint can be successfully applied. The street will remain open at all times during construction. All work is dependent on weather and any other unanticipated delays.

    BACKGROUND
These changes are informed by a community conversation that began in 2017 and was later incorporated into recommendations in the North Shoal Creek Neighborhood Plan (Recommendations MC A9, MC A11a, and MC A23), adopted August 2018. The planned maintenance work provides an opportunity to now implement these recommendations.

If you have questions or comments about these changes, please email mobilitybonds@austintexas.govor call 512-974-2300 and leave a message with your phone number for a call back.

  • Green Ribbons

Have you noticed green ribbons tied around some trees and tree branches in North Shoal Creek recently? These ribbons are part of Austin Energy’s vegetation management plan, and the ribbon means that the tree will be trimmed later this year when crews arrive to trim back trees in North Shoal Creek.

For more information on Austin Energy’s tree trimming process, please search “tree trimming” on this website. Look for the article titled “Austin Energy Crews to be Trimming Trees Along Power Lines in North Shoal Creek Soon” dated March 15, 2023. You can also find more information about Austin Energy’s tree trimming program at https://austinenergy.com/…/residential…/tree-trimming.
