Austin Energy crews will be in North Shoal Creek soon to trim tree branches away from power lines. Before they actually do any work on the trees, though, they will send a letter to each property owner who has trees needing to be trimmed. These notification letters will be sent about two weeks from the date of their letter to NSCNA, which is dated March 13. A copy of the Austin Energy letter is posted below. Please read it so you’ll be familiar with the process. Given the damage to Austin trees wreaked by February’s Ice Storm Mara, NSCNA encourages you to cooperate with Austin Energy so that future damage to power lines can be minimized.

CAN YOU HELP?: UPDATE 3/8/23 — Dianna Perez spoke at our neighborhood association meeting last night. She says donations have been coming in, and thank you very much to everyone who has donated. Update on what’s most needed right now: kitchen items, bedding, diapers, HEB or WalMart gift cards. If you have a large item to donate that needs to be moved via truck, please email Dianna (adrianna.perez@austinisd.org). She has someone who has a truck who can help with large donated items. Also, Spring Break is March 11-19, and Pillow Office will be closed. Please hold items you can donate during this time period and resume dropping items off Monday, Mar. 20. Once again, thank you from me, from Dianne, and from the refugee families. Your generosity reminds me why I still love living in Austin.

CAN YOU HELP?: There are 26 refugee students from Cuba currently enrolled at Pillow Elementary School. Their families need help with food, furniture, clothes and other necessities. If you can help, please email Dianna Perez, Pillow’s Parent Support Specialist, and let her know what you can do to help these students and their families. If you see firefighters and police officers at Pillow Elementary School this Friday, March 3, don’t be alarmed. Pillow is hosting a Career Fair for their students that day, and guests will include firefighters and police officers. Thank you to Pillow Principal Dinorah de la Torre-Salazar for giving us a heads up about this.

The meeting will focus on a discussion of the recent power outage. Officers hope to have some information from Austin Energy regarding causes of the outage in North Shoal Creek and what can we do as a neighborhood to prevent a future one.
All NSCNA meetings are open to the public. You do not need to be a member to come and participate.
