I hope you enjoyed the NSCNA Independence Day Parade and Celebration this weekend. We had a great neighborhood turnout and a fun time was had by all.
We’d love to share your photos from the event with everyone. We can post them here on our website at nscna.org. In addition, if you use Flickr to host digital photos, you can add pictures to the Life in North Shoal Creek Flickr pool, which includes photos from all around the neighborhood.

The latest edition of the NSCNA Neighborhood News has rolled off the printers and should have hit your doorstep by now. The newsletter has been delivered to the doors of all houses and duplexes in the neighborhood, and has been sent via postal mail to NSCNA members who live in apartments and condominiums.The current issue includes info on the City’s tree-trimming program, currently in our neighborhood; upcoming and past NSCNA social events; and a neighborhood crime report.

Location: North Village Library, 2505 SteckNorth Shoal Creek neighbor Pam Ferguson has written a children’s book, Sunshine Picklelime, that Random House is publishing this month. She will be at the North Village Library to discuss her book and share advice on getting published. Refreshments will be served afterward.
Here’s the description of Sunshine Picklelime provided by the official invite for the event:
“Main character and bird whisperer PJ Picklelime hides a lost yellow warbler in her wildly bushy curls until an oil spill off a local beach prompts her to crop those curls when a rallying cry goes out for hair to fill mop-up booms — as in the recent call by San Francisco based organization Matter of Trust for hair to be sent to Gulf warehouses. Pam is using the launch to promote Matter of Trust’s community activism.”
If you can’t make the June 29 event at the library, Pam will also be at a book signing on July 1 at 7 pm at BookWoman, and on August 15 at 2 pm at BookPeople.
The June 29 event is sponsored by the Friends of the North Village Library.

Congratulations to the Jackoskie Residence of 80xx Briarwood.
This home at the corner of Briarwood and Ashdale presents a “Welcome” image with Adirondack chairs in the front yard and a matching sign on the back gate. A scalloped picket fence frames the backyard which is beautifully appointed for all members of the family. The lovely curved stone wall, complete with pig, ties it all together. Mystery flowers grow here !

Your participation is important to ensure we build a future that Austinites desire. To learn more about the comprehensive plan process, visit the Imagine Austin Comprehensive Plan website.
On Saturday, June 26, the NSCNA Development Committee will be conducting a “Meeting in a Box” for neighborhood residents. At this meeting, we will be reviewing the draft components of the Vision Statement for Austin’s future. We will also complete a community design exercise to determine which housing types would be appropriate for different areas of Austin. The City will use this information to help gauge the community’s level of agreement with the draft vision statement, which has been created to gather your input on how our community should look.
