IMPORTANT UPDATE: Anyone who wants to attend the Zoom meeting should email nsccontactteam@gmail.com to request a link.
There will be a Special Called Meeting of the North Shoal Creek Neighborhood Contact Team on Thursday, October 20th at 6:30pm. It will be a virtual Zoom meeting. This meeting is called for the purpose of voting on a Neighborhood Plan Amendment for 8640 & 8700 Shoal Creek. A Zoom meeting link will be posted online prior to the meeting.
A developer has proposed building a 333-unit apartment complex on these two adjoining lots. This site is approximately 3 acres in size and is currently zoned LI (Light Industry). The City of Austin requires that a developer obtain a Neighborhood Plan Amendment which must be approved by the North Shoal Creek Neighborhood Plan Contact Team before the zoning change can be considered.
The developer describes the proposed complex as Class A apartments with amenities including pool, co-working space/clubhouse, a fitness center and courtyards. 75-80% of the apartments will be 1-bedroom, the remainder 2-bedroom. It will be a “podium” project, with 2 stories below ground and 6 above ground. This link takes you to an article describing podium buildings and providing examples: www.base-4.com/developers-decide-podiums-vs-wraps/
Only members of the contact team can vote on the plan amendment, but all North Shoal Creek residents are eligible to attend this Zoom meeting.

Steve Fuquay of Joe Bland Construction (the company that replaced the wastewater line at Steck and Rockwood) says that the company will soon repave the inside west bound lane of Steck and the north bound lane of Rockwood. The company also has a contract with KVUE to restore the lot next to KVUE. However, because of a recent revision to the project, the company still needs to bore under Steck from the north side of the creek to the south side. All work should be completed by the end of October. Steve also says thank you to all the residents in the neighborhood: “they have been extremely patient and helpful.”
