Sustainable Neighborhoods of North Central Austin will have its monthly meeting on Tuesday, August 17. Here is information from their recent mailing:

Kelly Snook, the new Parks and Recreation assistant director of operations, planning, design and construction, will speak to Sustainable Neighborhoods on Tuesday, August 17, about planning and design of pocket parks along transit corridors like Airport, Anderson, Burnet and Lamar.

Snook is also the incoming president of the Texas chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects.

Pocket parks are a key gap in the City’s zoning of Burnet, Lamar and other commercial streets to permit apartments and condos. Like many redevelopment issues, this is something that has to be planned for years before new buildings actually get built, or it will never happen. Snook brings experience in this area and will share her ideas with those in attendance.

The NPP Special Committee is considering a proposal for NSCNA to submit an application for the City of Austin Neighborhood Partnering Program (NPP). Under the NPP, the neighborhood would offer to share the cost of a neighborhood improvement project. The project under consideration is sidewalk improvements and repairs.

The mission of this committee is to make a recommendation on NPP participation, and, if appropriate, offer a project proposal to the association general membership for review and approval.

People who are interested in neighborhood sidewalk issues, as well as people who are concerned about the disposition of the funds reserved by the association for improvement projects, should consider participating.

If you have any questions, please contact committee chair Kate Brien at mathqueen99@gmail.com or association president Chip Rosenthal at 512-573-5174.

Our NSCNA Yahoo Group guidelines are up for their annual review. Last year, the Media Committee formed a task force to create guidelines for the NSCNA Yahoo Group.  These guidelines were developed to keep the group discussions lively and on topic and help everyone interact positively. The board approved and posted the guidelines on June 24, 2009. The guidelines can be found here.

This meeting is open to all neighbors who would like to participate.

Directions to the Village Christian Apartments Activity Room can be found here.
