The Democratic and Republican primary elections in Texas take place on Tuesday, March 2. Many of us in the neighborhood are in Precinct 252, which votes at Pillow Elementary.
However, early voting starts today (Feb. 16) and runs through Friday, February 26. You can vote at any Travis County polling place for early voting, and the lines are usually significantly shorter. The early voting location nearest to our neighborhood is the Ben Hur Shriners Hall at 7811 Rockwood Lane, but polling places are located all around town. Travis County also has mobile voting locations that are set up for a day or two in various places such as hospitals, shopping areas, and senior centers.
The elections include primaries for governor, lieutenant governor, state attorney general, U.S. representative (we are in District 10), state representative (we are in District 49), state senator (we are in District 14), state Board of Education members, and a number of other offices. Visit the Travis County Clerk Elections Division website for more information, including sample ballots.
Voter registration is closed for March 2 election. However, if you are not registered to vote, you can still register to vote in the primary runoff elections on April 13. You have until March 15 to register.
